Ittoran was brought before the Jedi as a toddler by his mother, the former wife of a Rattataki warlord the Sith had targeted for execution. His mother went onto a distinguished career in the SIS, but her wish that her gifted son would be trained for a better life away from her was honored.

Ittoran was assigned to a Jedi Master determined to show that discipline and the Jedi Code could expunge the violent impulses in such races as the Rattataki and pure-blood Sith. While he was a good student, his Master never once let his guard down, fearing Ittoran would stray from the path. As a result, Ittoran became a highly disciplined Jedi, but one who secretly struggled with his more violent impulses and, upon his knighthood, preferred assignments on sparsely populated worlds seeking valuable artifacts.

At first, Taris seemed like an ideal assignment. The once planet-spanning city had been reduced to rubble and then, over 300 years, reclaimed by the jungles and forests. There were few people, violent creatures and a never-ending supply of work to be done. When he discovered a secret Sith outpost, however, his life would completely change.

The Darth had burned through a number of apprentices, but found them lacking. Ittoran was offered the choice of becoming his student or becoming a training tool. He chose the later and for three years, he was tortured daily. Sometimes, it was being forced into combat with an ambitious Sith. Sometimes, it involved the Darth demonstrating techniques such as Force Lightning for eager disciples or his own amusement. Either way, Ittoran confounded him, not only by enduring, but by staying true to the Light. In truth, Ittoran had help in staying on the path from a source his old Master would not have approved of.

Miranda Sandral had started life as a noblewoman in the Tapani Sector. When she grew older, she found being confined to four walls to be constricting and set out to recover pieces of galactic history for the Tapani Sector's Royal Museum. It was on one of these trips where the Darth had captured her. Discovering she had a weak affinity with the Force and an eye for spotting powerful items, Sandral became yet another tool for the Sith to torment and use as he willed.

While enduring the Sith's attentions, Ittoran reached out with the Force and touched a sympathetic mind. Miranda soothed his pain and anguish as much as she could. When the Darth focused on her, Ittoran would lend his strength. Memories, hopes and dreams flowed both ways through the bond and the pair fell deeply in love. When the Darth discovered the bond, he began to scheme for ways to turn Ittoran to the darkside, but these plans were only in their first stages when an apprentice saw and opening and slew him. In the chaos for succession, Ittoran and Miranda escaped onto the vessel of an undercover agent who was nearby.

The ailing agent was on her last mission and had pulled every string she had left to be assigned to find the missing Jedi. While Ittoran had met Ykuri before many times, he had not known the woman was his mother. After telling him that his experiences and Miranda would not be served in just going back to his old life, the older woman offered him his family's silver jewelry which she had kept with her to do with as he chose.

He chose to give it to Miranda, who laughingly told him that, traditionally, offering jewelry was a sign of betrothal. Ittoran explained he was aware of this and asked Miranda to accept the offer, knowing the Jedi would likely remove him from the Order. With some reluctance, Miranda accepted and the pair were married by Ykuri two days before arriving back on Tython to give an account of his missing time.

At this time, the Jedi Council has allowed Miranda and Ittoran's marriage to hold fast while allowing him to stay with the Order. Some of the Council sensed the Force bond and saw the union as the Force's will. Some secretly did not object to marriage. Some feared annoying a noble of a politically valuable sector. Still the final vote was 5-4, and Ittoran is being evaluated.

A day after the ruling, Ykuri died peacefully in her sleep, her best and final mission completed.
